Center for Graves' Disease
The Center for Graves’s Disease at Sunrise Hospital is the only center in the greater Las Vegas area to offer treatment for Grave’s disease patients. Graves’ disease is an autoimmune disorder that leads to an overactivity of the thyroid gland affecting the eyes and orbits. In Graves’ disease, antibodies bind to the surface of thyroid cells and stimulate those cells to overproduce thyroid hormones. The most common symptoms include inflamed or bulging eyes, swelling of the eyelids, weight loss and an increased thyroid. Side effects from this activity may result in an increase in your metabolic rate and may affect a person’s physical appearance and mood.
Many treatment options are available to ease symptoms of Graves’ disease including medications, radiotherapy and eye surgery. A physician consultation is needed to properly diagnosis Graves’ disease and discuss treatment options on a case-by-case basis.
